Third Grade Original Materials
This is a chart that I created while teaching a mini lesson on the different types of sentences. The students and I discussed the types of sentences. After the discussion. The students were dismissed back to their seats where they were to create an example of each type of sentence. The students were allowed to work in groups of two. The students were to write their sentences on brightly colored strips of paper. After writing, the pairs of students were called to front of the room to read their sentence aloud and place their creation into the correct category. The following pictures depicts their work.
These were some of the objects that were in "Ms. Layne's American Culture Mystery Bag." These items were pulled out one-by-one so students could visualize and begin to understand my culture. This was a hands-on activity that assisted in the development and understanding of culture (This picture goes along with the lesson plan entitled "What is Culture?").
These pictures go along with lesson "How to Read a Map." The first picture is the signs I made for each student to hold during the song, and the second picture is the word wall that I created. This served as a word wall and vocabulary review game in the Centers/Work Stations.
These pictures correspond to a lesson in shared writing. I read three chapters from Junie B. Jones The Case of Hermie the Missing Hamster. After reading the chapters, the students and I composed a letter to Mrs. Binns discussing parts of the chapters. This was used as a modeling lesson of how to write a letter combined with a comprehension lesson.
During my student teaching, I taught social studies. I had to teach landforms. I created a landform booklet. I used different colors of construction paper to create the different types of landforms. Each page had a basic description of the landform. Each student created a booklet. The following are examples of my students' work.
During my student teaching, I also taught some lessons on space. As an introduction to the planets, I used a science and art integrated lesson. I had students finger paint the planets as I gave a lecture about each planet. After finger painting, I used spray paint to give the backgrounds an outer space look. This is our third grade intergalactic art.

Teacher Created Velcro Board
The following pictures depict a Velcro board that I created to use in a literacy lesson. These pictures go along with my first lesson plan featured in LiveText. The students had to match the pictures to the correct alphabet letter and then choose the correct word for the community helper. This was used as a game-like activity along with an informal assessment. I used capital and lower case letters in the words to assist in student recognition.
